Yale Fail: Hypocrisy on UN report Sally F, November 28, 2022 Let me be first to call out the hypocrisy of climate change elites spouting the “dire” need for “urgency” in addressing climate change and ecosystem. These are the same institutions and agencies that have shown no urgency in the protection of the critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whale, a story told in the award-winning documentary “Entangled,” revealing the failure of NOAA to fulfill its legal obligations to protect one of the world’s most endangered species. White whale, stock photo For those unfamiliar with the story, the North Atlantic Right Whale is named as such because it was the “right” whale to hunt, as far back as the 11th century. It moves slowly and feeds near the surface making it especially vulnerable. No longer hunted, its population has declined over the last 10 years, primarily due to boat strikes and entanglement in fishing gear. Only about 336 remain. Technology to improve fishing gear and satellite tracking to warn ships of their presence is the solution, but will cost millions. No money for this? Two federal bills to allocate funding, one in 2021 and one in 2022, sit idle, despite two federal court rulings, one in 2018 and one in 2022, determining that the government has violated the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act by not doing enough to address the lethal threats to this species. The best approach to save our ecosystem is to focus on immediate threats, now causing certain death to ocean marine life. Off-shore wind introduces yet another invasive threat, coupled with proposed energy reduction that is likely going to bring chaos and render even less attention to conservation of species.
