Hamden update: Andover street and the July 1st block party Sally F, July 16, 2023July 16, 2023 Regarding street barriers, taxpayer dollars not a factor Earlier, we reported on the possible use of taxpayer funds in order to block off Andover street in the town of Hamden. After a successful FOIA request, supporting documentation demonstrates the town engineer had to approve the request for the block party, and this approval was an agenda item for the Traffic Authority meeting. Our emphasis in bold, from one such FOI requested email: “The traffic barricades are typically dropped off the day before the requested closure. They are placed at each of the intersections requested for closure. It will be the responsibility of the organizers to place the barricades into the roadway at the approved listed time of the closure.” According to additional documents, the Traffic Authority attempted to contact residents on Andover street regarding the block party, and two residents were not an home; flyers were left at those houses to inform them of the street closure, 3 pm – 9 pm on Saturday, July 1st. It is unknown whether the barricades were still in place after 9 pm; fireworks were said to have continued past 9 pm. Share this:TwitterFacebookLike this:Like Loading... Odds and Ends Hamden
