Hamden residents living close to mayor Lauren Garrett were ‘livid’ as one witness described neighbors having to park on a nearby street.
Andover street in Hamden was blocked off on Saturday, July 1st, from 7-11 pm with at least 2 street barriers. The Public Works department drops off and picks up such barriers. Hamden mayor Lauren Garrett was holding her daughter’s private graduation party on the evening of Saturday, July 1st. Because of the street barriers, it appears she used taxpayer dollars for a private function.
“She’s egregious,” said a witness who didn’t want to be identified. “She doesn’t care.”

In addition to the graduation party, fireworks for the 4th of July were also being illegally launched from Garrett’s residence. To add to the violations, curfew in Hamden is said to be at 9:30 pm, but mayor Garrett appeared to keep her daughter’s party going until 11 pm.
Police got “hundreds of complaints” according to Hamden Crime Watchers on facebook. Because of the barricades, neighbors were forced to park on nearby Deerfield street.

One individual has already filed a FOIA request regarding the street barricades, and the Tribune has also filed one to confirm if taxpayer funds were used.
