In 2020, The Hartford Courant sold its newsroom; since the Covid crisis dominated the headlines, many CT residents may not realize that significant changes took place with the nation’s oldest, continuous newspaper.

In 2021, a New York-based hedge fund called Alden Global Capital secured Tribune shareholder votes to buy the Hartford Courant and all of its assets. Initially, Tribune Publishing advised its shareholders against the deal, but eventually accepted the offer of $630 million.
