Unconcerned about the reasons for the Secret Service’s mass rapid departure of its critical experienced organizational mentors, the Director of its “Office of Equity” asserts that DEI is “mission imperative” and an “ultimate goal” of the agency.
He is wrong–tragically deadly wrong in three ways:
1. The revelations of July 13th lay bare how fretting over DEI’s self-imposed quotas has compromised organizational fitness. It has confused the mission and diverted resources from critical needs. This has weakened the agency’s capacity for improving event site counter surveillance activities; advancing team planning with independent “red cell” critiques; and instilling adequate communications and improved overall supervision among protective elements. Core to these needs is the essential, yet currently inadequate, detailed inter-agency coordination from planning through execution.
2. DEI’s discrimination against qualified individuals while hiring unqualified ones, undermines—in fact is the polar opposite of, American Civil Rights principles. The repercussions of DEI, (which could be minimized with aggressive recruitment of qualified individuals), will harm the agency’s performance and America’s tranquility long into our future.
3. DEI, as implemented, deceptively substitutes its ideology for reality. It ignores how individuals must be tall enough to provide cover for their principal and strong enough to meaningfully assist in quickly carrying a wounded principal — all while demonstrating competent firearms skills.
The preventable near assassination of President Trump, alongside the associated murder and woundings of others are harbingers of future tragedies if common sense changes are not made.
